French Horn: Tony Bernard

Tony has been a proficient and active musical instrumentalist for more than 45 years, since taking his first clarinet lesson in elementary school in Middletown, NJ. During his school years in the Middletown Township school district, he played clarinet, French horn, sousaphone, tuba, and trumpet while participating in Concert Band, Marching Band, Jazz Band, and Wind Ensemble. In his senior year of high school, Tony received the John Phillip Sousa Band Award and played first-chair French horn in the All-Shore County Band.
While attending Trenton State College (where he earned separate Bachelor’s degrees in Industrial Arts/Special Education and Mechanical Engineering Technology), he played French horn in the College’s Symphonic Band. Following college graduation, he continued to perform French horn in various brass ensembles, as well as one season with the North Jersey Wind Ensemble. His musical experience has also included participation in various high school and college pit orchestras, with performances in Carousel, A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, Anything Goes, Fiddler on the Roof, Amahl and the Night Visitors, and most recently The Wizard of Oz.
Currently, Tony performs in the New Life Bible Fellowship Church’s orchestra and brass ensemble, the Berks Summer Band Institute, and the Reading Philharmonic Orchestra. Tony joined The Five Winds in Fall 2010, which also includes his daughter Christa on clarinet.
Tony is employed by Teleflex Marine of Limerick, PA, as an Engineer and Product Assurance Manager. He lives in eastern Berks County with wife Lorna and their two children, both active Band members in school.
